About the role
The Microbiology Lab Technician conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis of pharmaceutical products, cosmetic products, and ingredients according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and standard operating procedures. This position supports the Quality Control Laboratory (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), Research and Development (R&D), and Production departments as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Perform bio-burden testing on purified water, ingredients, finished products, and environmental samples.
- Assist in validation activities and monitor the purified water system.
- Document work clearly and accurately; ensure the accuracy and validity of testing results.
- Report results and maintain a clean, organized laboratory workstation.
- Monitor laboratory conditions and correct housekeeping deficiencies immediately.
- Maintain all media, lab equipment, and supplies required for routine lab operations.
- Follow safety rules and regulations; handle chemicals and microorganisms safely.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a closely related field.
- Associate’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field with 2 years of laboratory experience.
- 4 years of previous laboratory experience preferred.
- Mathematical skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Language skills: ability to read, speak, and interpret English fluently; record written information accurately.
- Reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and ability to sit or stand for long periods, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to see and focus on objects and color at close and far distances with good depth perception.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. (sponsorship not available).
Skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Exposure to cGMP preferred.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word; strong pipetting skills.
Work Environment
- Primary workstation is in the Microbiology Laboratory or occasionally on the production floor.
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Capability to work limited extended hours, including occasional Saturdays, if necessary.
Pay
Starting wage for this position is $25.00 per hour.
