About the Role
Provide supervision of a designated department within the Lab, including personnel, procedures, instrumentation, and compliance with regulatory agencies under the direction of the Laboratory Director/Manager. This role involves orienting and training employees, assisting with employee recognition, discipline, and evaluation, and contributing to the budgeting process while maintaining budgetary goals. You will perform all duties of a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in designated departments, serve as a delegating technologist to competent MLTs on the same shift, and may temporarily act as the designated person in charge.
Responsibilities
- Train all technologists and technicians on the essential needs of the department.
- Evaluate equipment and procedures being considered for purchase.
- Oversee calibrations and maintenance of instruments.
- Ensure tests are conducted within established standards.
- Produce accurate and timely laboratory information.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Use sound clinical judgment when evaluating laboratory results.
- Produce quality patient results as evidenced by proper QC protocol and supporting documentation.
- Maintain all laboratory equipment properly with appropriate documentation.
- Act as a charge person in the absence of a lab manager.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and exercise good judgment based on logic and clinical experience.
- Identify areas for improvement and facilitate progress.
- Demonstrate technical skill in using and troubleshooting equipment appropriate for the role.
- Adapt to new technology and use it to increase productivity.
- Document and submit required information and data in a timely fashion.
- Clearly and accurately document processes, policies, products, and service offerings, tailoring documentation to expected readers/users.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in medical technology (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (preferred).
- Three or more years of clinical laboratory technical experience with some supervisory experience.
- Certification from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent (required).
