Responsibilities
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow established quality control policies and procedures in documenting all corrective actions.
- Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify supervisor.
- Perform high complexity testing in both manual and automated methods.
- Document maintenance of instruments and equipment daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
- Review and document accuracy of patient results before release.
- Recognize age-specific differences in expected results.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested and reported accurately.
- May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
- Aid in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- Assume responsibility for the operation of the micro department during shifts.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager or director.
Qualifications
- Possession of a current and valid state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or limited state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license as a Microbiologist Specialist.
- Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA.
- One to two years of microbiology experience preferred.
- Experience as a CLS/MT generalist is beneficial.
