Microbiology Medical Technologist - Medical Laboratory Technician - Part Time - First Shift

About the role

The Department 60344 WI ACL Laboratories - WI Central Lab: Microbiology is seeking a part-time Benefits Eligible position. The schedule details include Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm, every third weekend and two holidays per year.

Major Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Maintains workflow and adjusts as necessary to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness.
• Follows prescribed policies for reporting and notifying test results.
• Performs and documents calibration and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
• Documents quality control results and takes corrective action when necessary.
• Recognizes and corrects malfunctions in testing or equipment, or notifies supervisors.
• Participates in internal and external proficiency testing.
• Performs specialty testing in areas such as transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Supports disease-specific accreditation goals by meeting turnaround time objectives.
• Provides support and timely results for critical care departments like the ED, ICU, and OR during high acuity events.

Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
• Associate's Degree in Clinical Lab Technician or related field.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Able to operate all equipment essential to the job.
• Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Sit, stand, and walk for most of the workday.
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and infectious agents.
• Exposure to human blood and body fluids.
• Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.

Pay and Schedule

The pay range is $25.30 - $37.95 per hour. The schedule is Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm, every third weekend and two holidays per year.
