Microbiology - Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician, PRN
Schedule
- Days/hours are on an as-needed basis and will involve providing coverage for weekends, employee absences, vacations, and periods of increased workload.
- Typical shifts are 8.5 hours long with a 30 minute unpaid meal break.
- Hours are not guaranteed.
- Perform complex microbiological testing to detect, identify, and analyze microorganisms.
- Carry out a broad spectrum of microbiology tests including culture and sensitivity testing, molecular diagnostics, serology, and microscopic examination.
- Identify and categorize bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites using advanced microbiological techniques.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
- Ensure accuracy and precision of test results through consistent quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Resolve technical problems related to testing procedures and equipment.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to communicate test results and support patient care decisions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to laboratory staff and trainees as needed.
- Adhere to HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Attend work regularly and on time.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- One of the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Medical Technology, or a related science with MT/MLS (ASCP) certification,
- An associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with MLT (ASCP) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience performing high-complexity testing (Microbiology experience preferred).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Mobility to climb stairs on a regular basis.
- Ability to distinguish color and pass vision acuity testing in compliance with CAP regulations.
- This role involves exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues, with Hepatitis-B vaccination offered to all performing these duties.
