About the Role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I possesses a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences, Medical Technology, or an ASCP-approved discipline and must take and pass the ASCP Registry within one year of hire date. As a bench technologist in Microbiology, this person is responsible for processing, evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures, and performing susceptibilities. This position requires maintaining safe work practices, following all regulatory requirements, and engaging supervisors as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing of patient samples, interprets, reviews, and prepares patient test results for review by the Supervisor and/or Medical Director.
  • Maintains all aspects of QC and QA relevant to the CAP certification standards.
  • Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Ensures that supplies used in the testing of patient samples are available in adequate quantities and used efficiently.
  • Records and evaluates daily, weekly, and monthly QC in assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or another ASCP discipline.
  • ASCP certification within 1 year of eligibility. If eligible at the time of hire, then within 1 year of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or clinical laboratory science.
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience.
  • ASCP certification.

Physical Activity

Pay

$33.76 per hour
