About the role
The Microbiology Department invites applications for a Laboratory Manager to support its teaching laboratories. This position is essential to maintaining high standards of laboratory readiness, safety, and instructional quality. Primary responsibilities include preparing microbiological and specialized media, chemical reagents, and laboratory materials while ensuring sterility and rigorous quality control.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Preparation of microbiological media, chemical reagents and supplies for teaching labs using sterile technique.
- Percentage of time: 50%
- Order supplies for all lab courses; manage inventory for teaching labs and media prep room in the CampusOptics system; assess the consumables stocks on a weekly basis.
- Percentage of time: 35%
- General maintenance of the teaching labs and associated workspace; make sure teaching labs are cleaned on a weekly basis.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Restock supplies in teaching labs, refilling disinfectants and stains, emptying staining trays, clean water baths, and general maintenance.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Arrange for the laundry of lab coats.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Assist with managing immediate lab needs during classes.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Train and assign daily tasks for undergraduate student employees.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Serve as supervisor and approve time in OneUSG connect for undergraduate student assistants each week.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Assist in orientation and training for graduate lab teaching assistants.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Supervise clean-up of teaching labs at the end of each semester.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Clean out the teaching labs periodically throughout the semester to discard materials that are no longer needed for the classes.
- Percentage of time: 5%
- Maintain list for equipment repairs; arrange for annual maintenance, and repair as needed, of equipment in teaching labs and media prep room e.g., microscopes, pipettors, plate pourer, fume hood.
