Microbiology Lab Manager

About the role

HCA Healthcare Laboratory Services is seeking a Microbiology Lab Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is incentive eligible and offers opportunities to make a meaningful impact in patient care.

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day laboratory technical and non-technical resources and operations to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Develops and implements programs for staff hiring, orientation, competency, and ongoing training.
• Provides ongoing performance feedback to staff through coaching, performance review, and counseling to ensure staff performance expectations are met.
• Reviews and analyzes section activities and data to improve operations and utilization of services.
• Maintains compliance with standards set forth by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA and CMS.
• Develops and implements policies and procedures and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures.
• Oversees quality control/assurance programs related to test methodology, protocols, equipment, and supplies.
• Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement.
• Ensures that staff receive information by developing and implementing a communication plan.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry required, Master’s Degree preferred.
• National Certification as a Medical Technologist required, State licenses where required (CA, FL, LA, NV, NY, TN).
• 3-5 years of Microbiology Supervisory level experience required. Experience in a high-volume hospital or central laboratory setting preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of laboratory methods using independent judgement to demonstrate knowledge of microbiology and infectious disease processes with correlation of disease states and test results.
• Thorough knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of laboratory billing guidelines.
• Excellent communication skills. Effectively presents ideas and concepts to groups in a concise manner.
• Effective team building and organizational skills.
• Ability to supervise, teach, coach, and motivate staff.
• Effective problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Knows when to seek guidance and escalate to leadership.
