Airswift is seeking a Microbiology Lab Technician for an initial six-month W2 contract role in Birmingham, AL, with the possibility of extension. Work schedule is 5 days per week, 40 hours total.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine environmental monitoring of classified areas using:
    • Active/passive air sampling and RODAC/swab surface sampling for bacteria and fungi detection
    • CliMet air sampling for total particulates detection
    Trend data to detect anomalies and characterize transient and resident microflora.
  • Test utilities including:
    • City water for total microbial count and absence of enteric organisms
    • Pre-treat water, clean steam, and Water for Injection for total microbial count and endotoxins
    • Nitrogen and process air for total microbial count and total particulates
  • Utilize classical microbiological methods for microorganism identification.
  • Perform validation activities such as:
    • Biological indicator recovery
    • Bioburden rinse/swab testing
    • Endotoxin rinse and endotoxin challenge vial testing
  • Analyze data and enter into software systems like Microbiology Information Management Systems (MIMS).
  • Document test results and conclusions in compliance with GMP standards; ensure test forms are complete before submission.
  • Perform responsibilities in compliance with Evonik quality systems.
  • Adhere to all company safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct laboratory activities safely using MSDS to identify chemical hazards, observe laboratory procedures, and report safety incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biological sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical, academic, or industrial/pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory.
  • Experience in microbiological assays and testing.
  • Desired experience in environmental monitoring and trending.
  • Desired experience in testing utilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to use a respirator.
  • Ability to work with microorganisms and hot liquids.
