Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs a variety of landscape functions; acts in a lead capacity and performs other related duties as assigned. This class is the senior-level position in the housing maintenance series.

About the Role

This class involves planning, prioritizing, and organizing daily work loads with or without help from the supervisor. Takes the lead to direct, train, and work alongside other Exterior Grounds Maintenance Workers. Receives and follows up on grounds maintenance work orders; provides daily logs and weekly progress reports and other necessary documents or records as required.

Responsibilities

  • Uses various types of hand and power tools such as saws, axes, drills, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, and hoes.
  • Responsible for keeping inventory of equipment and program vehicles and making recommendations for repair, replacement, maintenance and services.
  • Clears and removes brush and blackberries around MHA houses and government buildings. Also clears brush and berry bushes from property lines, houses, outbuildings, woodsheds, generators and HVAC equipment.
  • Services and repairs irrigation systems and regulates irrigation timers.
  • Maintains mulch within kids parks and monitors park equipment for necessary repairs.
  • Sweeps and cleans exterior of MHA communities, roads, yard perimeters, and parks areas as requested.
  • Weeds, mulches, and maintains all flower and landscape beds.
  • Responds to calls as needed for emergency repairs to irrigation systems and maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience in grounds maintenance and/or repair.
  • Skilled in active listening, superior customer service orientation, completing assigned work in a timely and safe efficient manner, operating small hand and power tools, safely operating tools and equipment, maintenance of equipment, organization and time-management, oral and written communication, customer service, inventory and bid process, operating standard office equipment, including personal computer.
  • Knowledge of basic math, safe work practices, maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Ability to read and write, communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, maintain accurate records, complete required reports, train staff, monitor the work of staff, follow verbal and written instructions, operate and care for tools and equipment, observe safety requirements and safe work practices, perform work involving regular physical activity, establish and maintain cooperative work relationships, arrive to work in a timely manner, attend required training, work varying shifts.

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Washington State driver’s license.
