General Responsibilities
To develop and manage the effective implementation of medical social services.
To coordinate clinical social work practice to ensure quality outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Establishes clinical goals and objectives in clinics such as the Acute Medical Social Services, Spain Rehabilitation Social Services, 1917 Clinic, Acute Medical Social Services (REACT program), etc.
- Provides oversight for all counseling programs and staff.
- Manages human resources functions such as interviewing, hiring, scheduling, evaluating and disciplining clinical and support staff.
- Oversees marketing and planning activities including referral source contacts.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable internal and external policies, procedures and regulations.
- Develops and manages budget for areas of responsibility.
Preferred
- Experience with the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program and/or the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
- Experience with quality improvement methodology and/or experience with data analysis.
Additional Duties
- Direct operations for the social work and mental health departments in a multidisciplinary HIV outpatient clinic.
- Operate with a high degree of independence in departmental leadership.
- Lead program development and administration for social work and mental health services.
- Define departmental objectives and establish systems that support program effectiveness and accountability.
- Lead policy development and quality improvement initiatives that support patient-centered care and clinic goals.
- Lead development of departmental budgets and ensure responsible resource allocation.
- Write grants and secure program funding, including preparing required program activity reports.
- Participate in organizational leadership activities and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.
- Serve as clinic and departmental liaison to HIV community partners and related organizations at institutional, local, state, and national levels.
- Align social work and mental health departmental priorities with broader clinic strategic objectives and mission.
- Serve on the 1917 Clinic Leadership Council and participate in clinic-level strategic planning.
- Serve as subject matter expert on Ryan White eligibility and allowable expenditures and support compliance with Ryan White, 340B, and other program requirements.
- Craft, update, and implement departmental policies that reflect best practices and regulatory standards.
- Develop, implement, and monitor departmental standards, objectives, and key performance indicators.
- Lead quality assurance and quality improvement efforts for social work and mental health teams and participate in interdepartmental QI initiatives.
- Foster collaboration between social work, mental health, and other clinic departments to support coordinated care and efficient workflows.
- Provide administrative and operational oversight, mentorship, and support to departmental supervisors and serve as escalation point for complex issues.
- Assess budgetary and resource needs and manage allocations to ensure fiscal responsibility and compliance with funding sources.
- Serve as liaison to the UAB Social Work department to support enterprise-wide initiatives and best practices.
- Represent the clinic to community partners, build strategic relationships, and oversee collaborative programs.
- Provide high-level oversight for programs run jointly with community partners to ensure intended outcomes.
- Supervise social services and mental health supervisors, including performance evaluation and mentorship.
- Participate in grant writing and ensure alignment between clinic and departmental goals.
- Communicate and collaborate with institutional, community, state, and national partners regarding HIV care and best practices.
Salary Range
$73,945 - $120,165
Education
- Master's degree in Counseling, Mental Health, Social Work or related Human Services field and five (5) years of related experience required.
- Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Licenses
- Currently licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC).
- Currently licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
- Currently licensed as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners required.
