Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the NCDHR, including the oversight of NCDHR staff and trainees working with NCDHR.
- Manage hiring processes for NCDHR including develop job descriptions and plan/anticipate NCDHR staffing needs across all NCDHR activities.
- Manage payroll and timekeeping/reporting for employees.
- Perform annual performance appraisals in communication with the Program Director.
- Promote continuous learning and performance improvement among staff.
- Create and maintain for NCDHR a cross-cultural work environment that is communication accessible, safe, and promotes productivity and staff well-being.
- Is a valued member of the NCDHR decision-making bodies, the NCDHR Executive Committee and NCDHR Directorate.
- Prepare budgets and manage spending for NCDHR funded activities (currently more than $1 million annually).
- Prepare new grant proposals and required reports to various funders (federal, state, and institutional) in accordance with their specific guidance and timelines.
- Care for NCDHR evaluation activities required for funders, project timelines, and NCDHR internal quality improvement activities.
- Represent NCDHR and the NCDHR Director on local and national bodies (such as the CDC PRC Operations Committee).
- Manage discussions with NCDHR team and collaborators to identify the strategic research direction for NCDHR.
- Identify funding opportunities, design and describe research strategies in collaboration with co-investigators and subject matter experts, and submit grant applications.
- Serve as author or co-author for manuscripts, posters, and presentations, commensurate with individual contributions.
- Coordinate and prepare reports, presentations, and manuscripts to disseminate results of research projects.
- Establish and maintain Data Safety & Monitoring Board for core research project, when needed.
- Ensure compliance in the conducting and reporting of NCDHR clinical trials.
- Oversee analytical and data management activities for past and current NCDHR databases.
- Manage data use agreements and their associated procedures with internal and external investigators.
- Oversee partner relationships through development and management of subcontractor budgets, scopes of work, and agreements in coordination with ORPA and UR legal.
- Work closely with community partners and other stakeholders required to conduct NCDHR community engaged research and programs.
- Interface with UR-based and external collaborators (such as URMC CTSI, URMC Clinical Research Center, other Prevention Research Centers, RIT/NTID, implementation/research partner sites).
- Oversee various NCDHR administrative committees and research work groups.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree; MPH or equivalent academic training preferred
- 3 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- At least have some facility with American Sign Language (ASL) and be willing to continuously improve ASL skills required
- Experience and familiarity with deaf culture, and health, healthcare, and healthcare delivery settings for deaf populations
- Experience identifying research priorities, designing research projects, and obtaining research funding
- Experience with research project management, including research budgets, grant management, and managing research teams
- Ability to prioritize work, facilitate decision making, and manage several projects simultaneously within deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with people from the community and at all levels of the organization
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to prepare accurate, concise, and clear written reports, especially manuscripts and scientific presentations
- Strong focus on flexibility, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, good follow-up and judgment
- Solid analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
- Must have experience with Excel, Access, or other database management
- Experience with statistical software such as SAS and SPSS is preferred
