Position Summary

The Emergency Services Manager oversees the administrative and operational aspects of the Emergency Medical Services Department. They also serve as a practicing Paramedic, providing first-aid and emergency medical treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to Emergency Medical Services operations.
  • Act as a liaison between employees, clients, and guests and the ACADEMI Emergency Medical Department.
  • Maintain Automated External Defibrillator and First-Aid kit programs.
  • Establish relationships with State and local Emergency Medical Services Agencies, Medical Directors, and Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
  • Respond to emergency medical dispatch requests and drive an equipped emergency vehicle.
  • Determine the nature and extent of illnesses or injuries to provide appropriate first-aid treatment.
  • Administer consistent, high-quality first-aid treatment, including opening and maintaining an airway, ventilating patients, administering CPR, using automated external defibrillators, administering intravenous injections and medication, treating minor wounds or abrasions, and applying splints.
  • Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care for simple and multiple system traumas, such as controlling hemorrhage, treating shock, bandaging wounds, immobilizing limbs, and immobilizing necks or spines.
  • Assess the nature and extent of illnesses or crises and provide appropriate emergency medical care.
  • Remove or assist in removing victims from scenes of accidents or catastrophes if needed.
  • Assist clinic professional staff with patient care, including intake, registration, and triage.
  • Maintain vehicles, medical, and communication equipment in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain timely, legible, and highly accurate recordkeeping as required by the Company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Display an exemplary, safe, and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Practice absolute professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and competency with patients, their families, the public, other agencies, and coworkers.
  • Attend continuing education and refresher training programs as required by employer, medical control, licensing, or certifying agencies.
  • Ensure adequate emergency medical supplies and medications are available for use.
  • Provide a yearly budget and work to order emergency medical supplies and medications within that approved budget.
  • Facilitate the payment of fire suppression inspections, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Review and approve the timecards of all EMS providers assigned to the emergency services department, verifying accuracy of the timecards and hours worked.
  • Adequately document internal incident reports in the company's Riskonnect computer software.
  • Coordinate with the company’s safety officer to conduct supervisory investigation reports for all injuries to Academi employees and provide the documented corrective actions necessary.
  • Coordinate the licensing of quick response vehicles with the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management.
  • Work in a busy training environment with frequent interruptions, including heat, cold, and humidity. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Must wear personal protective equipment as required by established Company safety standards.
  • Normal business hours are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, but some extended hours or weekends may be required, and work schedules will vary. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five years of experience in pre-hospital medical field, with a minimum of five years as Advanced Life Support.
  • Current State of North Carolina Paramedic certification required.
  • Pass a physical abilities test.
  • Maintain and provide proof of currency of required EMT certification and other licenses.
  • Be a member in good standing with local County Rescue or EMS Agency.
  • Have a valid US drivers license and satisfactory driver record.
  • Willingness to operate Company vehicle.
  • Knowledge of medical protocols, policies, and procedures required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and multiple priorities to completion.
  • Problem-solving skills with an analytical thought process.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Able to lift, lower, carry, push or move objects up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift 100 or more lbs. with assistance. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday. Requires constant use of hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
