About the role
The MiFamily Together (MFT) Parent Partner is an individual who has previously worked with child protective services (CPS) cases and is now responsible for supporting parents in maintaining engagement with case activities. This role involves offering flexible services that meet families where they are, fostering meaningful engagement, and providing tailored support to help families thrive.
Responsibilities
- Promote engagement in case activities via weekly phone, video, or face-to-face contacts.
- Support the safety and wellbeing of families, reducing risk to children.
- Attend training as required and coach parents on the child welfare process.
- Maintain connections between parents and children by observing and advocating for their rights.
- Assist parents in building protective factors and connecting them to community resources.
- Work collaboratively with the MFT team to support families and provide services.
- Complete required MDHHS and MFT documentation within established timeframes.
- Attend Family Team Meetings or Team Decision Meetings, court hearings, treatment and recovery appointments, or other events with parents.
- Facilitate monthly one-hour voluntary support group meetings for caregivers.
- Transport adults or children with parent(s) present using a personal vehicle, as needed.
Requirements
- A previously personal opened CPS or foster care case with successful case closure.
- A stable family situation without current CPS substantiation for safety issues.
- No confirmed child abuse reported during the role of Parent Partner.
- Flexibility to attend meetings and facilitate groups including non-standard work hours.
- Participation in mandated training(s), supervision, and team meetings.
- A willingness to share parenting experiences as a learning tool.
- Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and personal auto insurance.
- A flexible schedule based on client needs.
- Participation in initial and ongoing training provided by MDHHS and Agency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of prior work experience working with children and/or families is preferred.
Skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of families.
- Strong communication and coaching skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with families.
- Knowledge of child welfare processes and resources.
Benefits
Wage up to $20.79/hour based on relevant life and work experience.
Schedule
This position is primarily office based but may require occasional travel to other Agency offices.
