About the role
The MiFamily Together (MFT) Parent Partner is an individual who has previously worked with children and families through child protective services (CPS) or foster care cases. This position involves promoting engagement with parents through regular contact methods and supporting families in achieving stability and safety.
Responsibilities
- Work with parents to engage in case activities via weekly phone, video, or face-to-face contacts.
- Attend training sessions as required.
- Coach parents on navigating the child welfare process.
- Maintain connections between parents and children by advocating for their rights.
- Help parents identify and advocate for their needs.
- Connect parents to community resources.
- Support families by attending Family Team Meetings or Team Decision Meetings, court hearings, treatment and recovery appointments, or other events.
- Facilitate monthly one-hour voluntary support group meetings for caregivers.
- Transport adults or children with parent(s) present using a personal vehicle, as needed.
- Drive for agency business.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- A previously opened CPS or foster care case with successful case closure.
- A stable family situation without current CPS substantiation for safety issues.
- No confirmed child abuse reports during the role of Parent Partner.
- Flexibility to attend meetings and facilitate groups including non-standard work hours.
- Participation in mandated training(s), supervision, and team meetings.
- A willingness to share parenting experiences as a learning tool.
- Reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and personal auto insurance.
- A flexible schedule based on client needs.
- Participation in initial and ongoing training provided by MDHHS and Agency.
- Not eligible for employment if convicted of any felony or placed on the Central Registry.
- Must receive clearance for a new CPS complaint while employed.
- Must participate in an investigation with confirmed abuse and neglect resulting in end of employment.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 1 year of prior work experience working with children and/or families is preferred.
- No professional certificates, licenses, or registrations are required.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with families.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours.
- Knowledge of child welfare processes.
- Ability to connect families with community resources.

Pay
Up to $20.79/hour based on relevant life and work experience.
