MFM Sonographer (PT- 0.45 FTE, Day Shift)

About the role

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer provides specialized high-risk obstetric ultrasound services to assist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of maternal and fetal conditions. This role performs a wide range of advanced OB ultrasound examinations and assists MFM physicians with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS).

Responsibilities

• Selects appropriate equipment and transducers, educates and positions patients, obtains relevant health histories, and communicates effectively with patients and support persons.
• Performs a variety of high-risk obstetric ultrasound studies according to established protocols.
• Affixes images and clinical data into Viewpoint and PACS systems, ensuring accurate patient record documentation.
• Evaluates fetal anatomy, growth, and well-being; identifies abnormal findings and obtains additional images as directed.
• Provides patient education and support before, during, and after procedures.
• Maintains examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, stocking of supplies, and readiness for procedures.
• Performs high-level disinfection (HLD) of ultrasound transducers per infection control standards.
• Collaborates with MFM physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives and departmental process improvements.
• Mentors and supports new sonographers and students in the MFM setting.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health/Education Programs (CAAHEP).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (OB/GYN).
• American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Fetal Echocardiography (FE) registry, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.

Qualifications

• Required: Two (2) years of related work experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine or a high-risk obstetrics setting.
