The role will be based out of the Greater Houston Area (TX) with occasional work in Fremont (CA) for early builds and validation.
About the role
The Metrology Technician will join the Metrology group within the Quality organization. They will operate and program metrology equipment regularly to ensure accurate measurements and reports on critical manufacturing parts.
Responsibilities
- Enable inspection/verification of parts and assemblies using CMM, Measurement Arm, Laser Tracker, and conventional hardware.
- Create measurement programs using PolyWorks and PC-DMIS software for Statistical Process Control (SPC) or investigation requests.
- Provide, check, and analyze data to assist in quality improvement activities.
- Care for and coordinate calibration activities, ensuring all test and measurement equipment is calibrated before use.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) best practices across departments.
- Collaborate with the Quality Engineering Team for continuous improvement, problem-solving, and enhancing product quality.
- May involve various physical tasks related to moving parts and equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or at least 2 years' experience in metrology or quality roles, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings, including GD&T.
- Flexible hours and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with PolyWorks and/or VXElements software, 6DOF, point cloud alignments, and laser scanning.
- Previous electro-mechanical inspection background with the ability to use basic hand measurement tools.
- Ability to give presentations and prepare technical reports.
Qualifications
- Essential Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods, lift up to 35 lbs., and adhere to safety protocols.
Skills
- Proficiency with PolyWorks and/or VXElements software.
- Experience with 6DOF, point cloud alignments, and laser scanning.
- Knowledge of GD&T and ability to apply it in practice.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC).
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
