Metrology Technician
About the role
As a Metrology Technician at Canam Bridges, you will take factory measurements using “Station Total” and “Laser Tracker Faro” surveying tools. You will alternate between taking measurements, recording data, and writing reports, leveraging your 3D vision and analytical skills. Your expertise in AutoCAD and Polyworks will support production planning and problem-solving in a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Plant Manager and production staff in developing and implementing production plans to meet objectives.
- Read and analyze production schedules, records, and reports to evaluate productivity and identify issues.
- Recommend and help develop corrective action plans for labor issues and production problems.
- Compile production planning notes, sketches, prints, schedules, and specifications into formal build plans.
- Detail and manipulate models to create additional fabrication views during planning sessions.
- Design fixtures and jigs to aid fabrication.
- Manage conventional and CNC machining, including direct labor coverage to support production needs.
- Train and assist production members in operating machining equipment according to build plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, and/or experience in detailing and fabrication.
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions for production or productivity problems.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Tekla, FeatureCam, Polyworks, Station Total, Laser Tracker Faro, and similar programs preferred.
- Strong communication skills to convey information effectively.
- Analytical skills to evaluate information and choose the best solution.
- Ability to schedule events, programs, and activities, as well as manage the work of others.
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand continuously with occasional walking and sitting.
- Perform physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying heavy objects (60–100 lb).
- Climb, crouch, kneel, bend, and handle materials.
- Repetitive finger motions required.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
Work Environment
- Works near moving mechanical parts and in temperature extremes, sometimes outdoors.
- Regular exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Occasional risk of flash burn to eyes and exposed skin.
- Noise level in the work environment is generally very loud.
