Metro Action Commission Head Start Teacher 1

This is a full-time, non-civil-service position with Metro Action Commission.

About the role

The Head Start Teacher 1 is under the direct supervision of the Head Start Center Manager and the general supervision of the Head Start Assistant Center Manager. Extensive background checks and random drug tests are performed on applicants for this position.

Responsibilities

• Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
• Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities
• Attend staff meetings, training, and other related meetings as requested
• Responsible for all consultation(s) with parents
• Maintain current records, perform tasks associated with the education component, and assure confidentiality
• Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors
• Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom (e.g., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)
• Report any children concerns to the (assigned) Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate
• Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor
• Ensure daily implementation of the family-style food service
• Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program
• Assume other task-related duties as requested

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license
• Official college transcripts (must be provided if qualifying based on education)
• Residency in the State of Tennessee or willingness to become a resident within six (6) months of employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous work experience with young children
• Certification in Early Childhood Education
