Metering Technician
About the role
The City of Lodi Electric Utility Department is currently accepting applications for Metering Technician. Responsibilities
- Under general direction plans and organizes, performs skilled work in the areas of maintenance, testing, repair and installation of electric meters;
- Provides training to other employees;
- Participates in policy and standards development and does related work as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of: Various electric meters, their operation and the methods and equipment used in their testing and repair; AC and DC circuits with particular reference to Ohm’s Law, Kirchoff’s Law and Blondel’s Theorem; various modern electronic components and circuits; inductance, capacitance, power factor and vector analysis; Modern metering methods for single and polyphase circuits; applicable electrical codes; Necessary precautions to be taken when working around energized equipment;
- Ability To: Use modern precision instruments and testing equipment to obtain specified performance; use mathematics, including trigonometry; Establish preventative maintenance programs and keep appropriate records; Read and interpret electrical drawings, plans and specifications; prepare and write reports and maintain records; operate modern computer equipment for programming of and retrieving data from microprocessor-based modern metering equipment.
Qualifications
- Attainment of journey level Metering Electrician status and three (3) years experience in this status.
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, including trigonometry.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Skills
- Maintain the following physical abilities: see well enough to read, write and make observations, operate hand tools, vehicles and equipment; hear well enough to converse on the radio, telephone and in person; bodily mobility to walk for periods of time including slippery or uneven surfaces; bend, kneel, reach, stand, crouch or climb occasionally; operate assigned equipment and vehicles and perform manual labor occasionally; operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; verbally communicate to exchange information; ability to tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature, noise, dust, and all types of weather and temperature conditions, while performing essential functions and be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds as necessary.

Health Benefits: All employees are offered medical insurance for themselves and dependent(s) through CalPERS Medical Plans. The City shall pay a monthly maximum towards medical premiums as follows: $1,051.97 per month for Employee Only $2,103.95 per month for Employee +1 $2,735.14 per month for Family The City shall pay the full cost for the employee and their dependents dental premium for the term of this agreement. The City agrees to provide a vision care plan, equivalent to the VSP Plan B, with a $25.00 deductible for the employee and dependents; the entire premium to be paid by City.
Pay
The starting salary is the first rate shown on the job announcement. Advancement to the higher steps of the salary range is based upon merit in accordance with the Salary Ordinance and Rules for Personnel Administration. Eligibility for the first merit increase is effective after 12 months and for additional merit increases after one year intervals until the employee has reached the maximum step.
Schedule
Holiday - An average of 13 paid holidays per year. Vacation - 2 weeks paid vacation annually, increasing with length of service depending upon the appropriate labor agreement. Sick Leave - 10 days per year depending upon the appropriate labor agreement. Administrative Leave - Management/Mid-Management positions receive 80 hours per fiscal year, and specified professional/technical positions receive 40 hours per fiscal year (Pro-Rated).
