About the role
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) reporting to the Meter Reader Manager, located at the Corporate Office in Edinburg, TX. The role is responsible for reading water meters and recording volumes used by residential and commercial consumers.
Responsibilities
- Read water meters and record volumes used by residential and commercial consumers
- Assist in the collection of delinquent accounts as needed
- Assist with routing new meters, changing meters, installation of new customer boxes, replacing old boxes, and repairing small leaks at meter sites
- Work the locklist at various times during the month, or as needed
- Participate in job-specific training and other required corporate training programs
- Comply with federal and state regulations and established corporate policies and procedures
Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions
- Current Texas Driver License and insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter
- Work towards obtaining a Class D Water license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
- Good communications skills, including fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
- Basic mathematics skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Good judgment and discretion in daily duties
- Ability to work a flexible schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and be on call on a rotating schedule
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance, and lift items up to 25 pounds and/or move items up to 50 pounds
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include 3 or more months of prior relevant work experience and current licensing.
Skills
Required skills include good communication skills, basic mathematics skills, and the ability to work in a flexible and dynamic environment.
Work Environment
The position requires working near moving mechanical parts, occasional exposure to extreme heat or cold weather conditions, and the ability to work in a loud noise environment.
