Meter Reader

About the role

The position involves reading and recording monthly electric and water meter data from a predetermined route of OMU customers. This includes driving to the meter route, ensuring accurate recordings, picking up meter reading equipment, and reporting any issues to the supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Accurately records electric and water meter readings into a hand-held meter reading device.
• Drives to meter route, ensures actual reads are recorded to avoid possible estimations and notes any discrepancies.
• Picks up meter reading equipment and tools from office daily.
• Utilizes these tools in a safe and efficient manner.
• Safely operates and maintains an OMU vehicle.
• Accesses meters on customers' properties while assessing potential risks such as obstructions and animals.
• Reports any form of meter tampering, theft of services, or system infrastructure issues to supervisor.
• Maintains a positive attitude while interacting with OMU customers throughout the day while also maintaining the confidentiality of customer data.
• Ability to conduct advance planning of work in order to complete assignments regardless of weather or other obstacles.
• Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Educational background equivalent to four years high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others.
• 7 to 11 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
• Valid Driver's License.

Qualifications

• Mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.
• Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Skills

• Basic: Alphanumeric Data Entry, 10 Key.
