Job Summary
Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises.
Job Description
- Read meters as required for field orders and on schedule for cycle billing.
- Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
- Test single-phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy.
- Program meters.
- Perform Credit and Collections related to orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment.
- Investigate irregular usage.
- Investigate energy diversion.
- Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
- Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment.
- Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
- Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
- Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
- Examples include roles such as Meter Specialist, Meter Technician, Field Network Technician, or substation field personnel, as well as comparable military or industrial technical training.
- Licenses/Certifications: State Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.
Other Requirements
- Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations.
- Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
- Work late shifts as needed.
- Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner.
- Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
- Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
- Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the public.
- Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
