About the role
We're looking for a Weekend Evening Meteorologist to join our award-winning, #1-rated 15 News and First Alert Weather team. This isn't just about reading a green screen; it's about owning the First Alert Weather brand across every platform, from the big screen in the living room to the vertical video in the palm of someone's hand. You'll deliver accurate forecasts that prioritize safety and planning, whether it's a sunny Saturday or high-stakes severe weather, and create streaming updates and vertical videos for social that stop the scroll and provide real value.
Responsibilities
- Champion the First Alert brand: Deliver accurate forecasts that prioritize safety and planning, whether it's a sunny Saturday or high-stakes severe weather.
- Own the digital space: Create streaming updates and vertical videos for social that stop the scroll and provide real value.
- Lead through the storm: Assist or lead wall-to-wall severe coverage during Wisconsin spring and summer with urgency and calm reassurance.
- Craft visual stories: Use state-of-the-art The Weather Company Max graphics to make complex data concise, relatable, and visually stunning.
- Collaborate with the best: Work with our #1-rated news team to make weather seamless across newscasts, web, and social.
- Showcase your versatility: Home is weekend evenings with a Wed-Sun shift, but you're ready to pivot to The Morning Show when our Chief is off or cover evening shows when our PM meteorologist is off.
- Connect with Madison: Represent WMTV via live field reporting and public appearances.
Requirements
- Degree in Meteorology (or near completion).
- The Weather Company Max Systems experience preferred.
- Clear, relatable communication: Translate complex topics into easy-to-understand forecasts for viewers.
- Team-player attitude: Self-starter who loves a fast-paced newsroom.
- Deep understanding of the unique, rapidly changing weather of the upper Midwest.
- Thrives under pressure and willing to work alternate hours for breaking weather.
- Digital-first mindset: As comfortable with a social reel or streaming update as a full TV weather block.
- Graphic creativity: Ability to make high-quality, interesting graphics that are weather-specific or adjacent to help tell the weather story beyond the standard maps.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Schedule
Weekend evenings, Wednesday through Sunday shift; must be flexible to cover Morning Show when Chief Meteorologist is off and evening shows when PM Meteorologist is off.
