About the role
The Metal Model Maker will assist with the development of advanced body technology integration into JBPCO Business Unit truck bodies on electric vehicle chassis. This role involves working closely with the mechanical engineering team to create the next generation of truck bodies for various business units.
Responsibilities
- Installs prototype truck bodies to chassis.
- Performs MIG or TIG welding as assigned.
- Assists in identifying and sourcing parts as necessary.
- Provides exceptional customer service, maintains an organized workspace, and returns tools, materials, and equipment to designated areas.
- Reads and interprets blueprints to design and construct base templates.
- Sets up, uses, and maintains work machinery.
- Verifies design specifications before cutting, bending, or drilling materials or ordering parts.
- Assists in fabricating and constructing metal and other material components.
- Wires beds, vehicles, and trailers.
- Grinds, smooths, and completes products, performing quality checks on finished work.
- Reviews work orders and discusses tasks with fabricators.
- Maintains accurate notes and records on work instructions.
- Participates in ongoing technical education.
- Adheres to all company safety policies, rules, and training.
- Applies strong attention to detail in all aspects of design to ensure safety and quality.
Requirements
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Automotive trade or technical school preferred.
- Fabrication experience required.
- Welding experience required.
- Automotive technician experience preferred.
Skills
- Ability to read and interpret designs and blueprints.
- Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
- Basic MS Office knowledge; computer software and internet proficiency.
- Professional personal appearance, including appropriate work attire and personal hygiene.
- Adequate physical ability to maneuver inside, outside, and under vehicles for diagnosis and repair.
- Ability to drive and handle various makes, models, and sizes of vehicles.
- Complete inventory of auto mechanical and fabrication tools.
- Team-oriented, flexible, and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Advanced mathematical and engineering skills.
- Proficiency with metal fabrication tools.
