Mentor Specialist

Responsibilities

  • Effectively engage youth in-school and community through activities to identify concerns, seek solutions, mediate disputes, demonstrate restorative methods, and encourage education.
  • Conduct individual assessments of strengths and needs, collaborate with MHTS therapists to identify individual treatment goals, and support youth at risk of trauma-related instability.
  • Facilitate external referrals, follow-through/support, and recognize the vicarious trauma of staff.
  • Maintain and establish healthy relationships with school personnel and staff.
  • Report directly to the Manager of School-based Mentorship.
  • Identify and recruit participants for caseload, conduct intakes, assessments, and treatment planning, and work in partnership with assigned therapists.
  • Deliver mentor curriculum, mediate disputes, attend IEP meetings, school meetings, disciplinary hearings, and teacher conferences, assist participants in re-enrolling in school, and identify and connect participants to employment.
  • Operate professionally on a flexible time schedule, including late evenings and weekends, and perform other job-related duties as requested.
  • Collect and submit data reports to manager monthly for ongoing reporting, maintain documentation compliance, and represent the agency to various publics.
  • Attend departmental and agency-wide staff meetings, as scheduled, and participate in agency-wide fundraising events.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years’ experience working with inner-city youth in a human service setting, social service setting, or related field; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services, Non-Profit Management, or related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with technology integration into daily program operations and evaluation systems.
  • Willingness to travel daily.
  • Passive extensive background check and screening.
