Nexus Family Healing is hiring a Mental Health Therapist for our newest youth crisis and stabilization center in Hennepin County. This 13-bed, short-term residential service supports Hennepin County youth with complex mental and behavioral health issues, aiming to reduce inappropriate care settings like emergency rooms, police stations, juvenile detention, or unstable home situations. The role provides treatment and therapeutic supports while triage, assessment, and transition planning occur with families.

Pay

$65,000–80,000 annually, dependent on licensure.

Full-time, onsite opportunity at 1800 Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis.

Position Summary

Our Therapist will provide overall management of youth’s treatment through active engagement, clinical assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. The Therapist will offer clinical insight and work from a trauma-informed lens to enhance the milieu and programming, engage with families through family therapy and treatment planning, and collaborate with the community and providers regarding the youth’s progress and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

Trauma-Informed Care

  • Helps establish and maintain a positive treatment culture and environment
  • Works with youth and family to develop a Nexus Individual and Family Guidance Plan
  • Active involvement with Family Collaborative Intake meetings
  • Completes Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) functional assessment in accordance with TCOM (collaborative) principles
  • Through collaborative effort with family, youth, and providers, develops and monitors individual treatment plans
  • Provides individualized, youth-focused, strength- and evidence-based family and individual therapy models to youth and families (e.g., Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR))

Milieu Coordination

  • Develops and facilitates milieu and treatment groups that are trauma-informed, educational, and treatment-focused
  • Participates in all youth-related treatment team meetings, using family-centered language and youth-driven principles
  • Serves as a clinical treatment team leader to Youth Crisis Providers (YCPs), including modeling and coaching staff on rapport-building, trauma-informed practices, and de-escalation techniques
  • Available on-call for consultation, treatment direction, and/or decisions when appropriate
  • Assesses readiness for discharge in conjunction with the treatment team

Community Care

  • Coordinates and communicates aftercare needs of the client with family and all necessary social service and community providers to ensure a smooth transition
  • Communicates with the treatment team to include all desired and necessary family members, educational, legal, community, and social service providers (as well as all natural supports identified by the youth and family) to gather information to inform and support the treatment process
  • Ensures all required client reports, records, and documentation are produced accurately and maintained in a consistent, timely, and professional manner according to policy and regulated statutes
  • Educates and facilitates trainings for staff on trauma-informed practices, clinical diagnosis treatment processes, and other clinically relevant training material
  • Participates in team meetings, program clinical team meetings, therapy clinical supervision sessions, and in-service as required
  • Ensures confidentiality regarding mental health, medical issues, background, and treatment, and complies with all HIPAA-related requirements
  • Remains current on all company policies, assigned trainings, and/or certification requirements

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, counseling, or clinically related fields
  • If currently unlicensed, must be on track to complete licensure for a specific, related discipline and/or currently holds a provisional/intermediary license (e.g., LGSW, LMSW, LAMFT, or LPC)
  • Some experience working in a residential, intensive inpatient, or outpatient setting required
  • Valid driver’s license; must meet state regulating agency and Nexus Home Office driving requirements
  • Ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges
  • Must successfully complete a three-part Therapeutic Crisis Intervention exam and training
  • Must successfully pass a DHS criminal background check
  • Open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fully licensed in Minnesota: LICSW, LPCC, LMFT
  • Related residential or human services experience working with youth and families
