Mental Health Technician, Per Diem

Shift Description

Part time

Responsibilities

• Direct one-to-one observation of patients in the ED, while documenting the patient’s condition during monitoring
• Assist with crisis intervention by utilizing approved de-escalation and calming techniques as appropriate
• Participates in mitigating the safety of patients experiencing psychosocial crises and their physical environment
• Immediately escalate safety or patient behavioral concerns to ED nurses, providers, or other colleagues including security personnel
• Provide emotional support with calming techniques when appropriate

Requirements

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills with a collaborative approach
• Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain composure in stressful situations
• Sitting for extended periods of time with frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous behavioral health experience preferred
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or ability to obtain certification and maintain annually
