About the Role
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Mental Health Technician (MHT) is responsible for observing and recording patient information pertinent to the treatment plan, welcoming new patients through specific admission protocols, assisting with the patient discharge process, maintaining direct patient observation, leading patient education, community, goal, and activity groups, and assisting nursing staff by taking vital signs and helping patients perform ADLs.
Due to the high visibility and significant patient interaction, this position is frequently the first responder to a variety of patient situations such as codes, behavioral outbursts, attempts to introduce contraband, and medical issues. The MHT adjusts therapeutic approach to acuity, age, gender, and cultural considerations and does not assume independent responsibility for patient care.
Schedule
Flexible scheduling with PRN requirements:
- Tier 2: Provide 6 shift availability per month, including 1 full weekend per month, 2 major holidays, and 1 minor holiday.
- Tier 3: Provide 8 shift availability per month, including 1 full weekend per month, 2 major holidays, and 1 minor holiday.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
- Certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) where required by state (preferred).
- Current BLS certification (required).
- Crisis management certification per hospital policy and standards (required).
Experience
None required. A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred.
