About the role
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides essential support in managing and caring for consumers with mental health conditions.
Responsibilities
- Welcome, orient, and admit consumers into the program, including completing intake forms and securing belongings.
- Deliver physical and therapeutic care, assist with daily activities, hygiene, and monitor vital signs.
- Facilitate educational groups and activities to promote recovery and personal growth.
- Monitor consumers every 15 minutes, observe behavior, and intervene in violent or suicidal situations with verbal or physical restraint when necessary.
- Participate in discharge planning, ensuring consumers receive proper documentation, medications, and personal belongings.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; preferred background in mental health or healthcare.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions.
- Must pass Therapeutic Options training and CPR certification.
- Position is safety-sensitive and subject to drug testing, including for marijuana.
- Flexibility for shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays is necessary.
Skills
- Ability to establish supportive relationships with consumers.
- Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and safety procedures.
