Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to mental health patients based on established standards and licensure guidelines.
- Model Dayton Children’s values through effective interaction with patients, families, and treatment team members.
- Perform supportive, trauma-informed care to patients/families, including:
- Ensuring a safe and therapeutic milieu.
- Completing routine safety checks and constant attendance on patients as ordered.
- Ensuring patient safety and adherence to treatment plans.
- Demonstrate strong therapeutic communication skills and accept delegated tasks.
- Ask pertinent questions and report patient information as indicated, including behavioral changes and mental status updates.
- Handle sensitive patient information with strict confidentiality and privacy guidelines.
- Assist with activities of daily living, appropriate documentation, and collaborate with the treatment team.
- Function as the unit clerk and/or support coordinator, supporting the team lead in clerical duties and daily operations of the unit.
- Comply with the safety management program to provide a secure and therapeutic physical environment, free of hazards and reduce the risk of injury, including de-escalation techniques.
- Be knowledgeable about and responsive to the mission of the hospital and the specific goals of the mental health unit.
- Promote a patient and family-centered, trauma-informed environment and act as a change agent to meet the rapidly changing census and needs of all customers within the mental health setting.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and record-keeping.
