Responsibilities
- Mentally engages and comforts psychiatric patients in order to meet their treatment goals.
- Monitors patients for safety and reports any concerns to the nursing staff.
- Engages patients in treatment groups, activities, and therapy sessions.
- Ensures a clean and safe environment for patients.
- Works closely with nurses and other unit staff to maintain a coordinated and therapeutic treatment milieu.
- Trains and mentors new employees.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of college in a related field or at least two years of experience as a Certified Nurses Assistant in a psychiatric setting preferred.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
Working Conditions
- Indoor environment with temperature control.
- Exposure to occasional slippery floors, objects on floors, chemicals, and sharp objects.
- Exposure to hazardous materials, bloodborne pathogens, and communicable diseases.
- Subjected to stressful situations.
- Continuous standing and walking for up to 8 hours per day, with intervals of 15 minutes.
- Requires lifting a minimum of 50 pounds.
