About the role
The Mental Health Tech position involves providing essential support and guidance within a therapeutic milieu. You will help patients discover healthy ways to express themselves, problem-solve, and build resilience. You will also provide crucial feedback and positive reinforcement, maintain a secure environment, and assist with daily living activities.
Responsibilities
- Guide patients through a trauma-informed lens, helping them discover healthy ways to express themselves, problem-solve, and build resilience
- Provide crucial feedback and positive reinforcement, helping patients acknowledge and take responsibility for their own behavioral patterns
- Act as a critical resource in emergency situations, maintaining a secure environment, and providing essential basic nursing tasks like vital signs, specimen collection, and assisting with daily living activities
- Facilitate supportive groups, educational activities, and psych-educational sessions, fostering a sense of community and teaching vital socialization skills
- Utilize strong communication skills – both verbal and written – to connect with a diverse patient population and collaborate seamlessly with our interdisciplinary team
- Become proficient in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) techniques, using them to de-escalate situations, promote positive interpersonal skills, and minimize the need for restrictive interventions
Requirements
- A High School Diploma with at least one year of experience as a Psych Tech or equivalent
- Currently listed on the Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Department of Health (or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment)
- The ability to obtain within six months of employment: CPI Certification, Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting, and First Aid (if applicable for PRTF)
- BLS or BLS instructor certification upon hire (American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, or American Heart Association accepted)
Preferred
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Service field
- Graduation from a Psychiatric Assistant or Nurse Aide training program
- One year of experience in the Behavioral Health field
- Are a current nursing student or a student studying a Human Services field
