About the role

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County, in partnership with AmeriCorps and UServeUtah, provides opportunities for young adults to participate in high-impact service-to-career pathways while playing a key role in Utah's statewide commitment to improving the wellbeing and mental health of youth in our communities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mental health and resilience skill-building lessons during the time allocated each week;
  • Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of youth served;
  • Complete weekly timesheets and regular reports;
  • Evaluate progress of youth served using assessments and rubrics;
  • Support licensed healthcare professionals by promoting well-being and recovery or by performing allowable administrative and supportive functions;
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
    • Build positive relationships with youth, families, school staff, and your team;
    • Promote and stimulate program participation;
    • Provide guidance and role modeling to members;
    • Ensure youth are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s);
    • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of youth.
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all youth and visitors;
    • Monitor and evaluate program services and activities;
    • Oversee youth safety, program quality, and appearance of the host site at all times.
  • Supervision:
    • Supervise and ensure safety during indoor and outdoor activities (rain or shine);
    • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in regular staff meetings.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • May participate in special programs and/or events;
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant required training;
    • Participate in MLK Day of Service and National AmeriCorps Service Week.

Requirements

  • 21+ years of age;
  • United States citizen or legal permanent resident;
  • High school diploma or GED;
  • Meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service;
  • Experience working with youth, preferably teens;
  • Knowledge of youth development;
  • Motivate youth and manage behaviors;
  • Ability to work with the school and general public;
  • Plan and implement quality programs for youth;
  • Organize and supervise youth in a safe environment;
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required;
  • Valid State Driver's License.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Education and/or work experience related to healthcare, mental health, education, and social services fields preferred.

Compensation

A service term will provide a living allowance of $4,800 (for 300 hours) or $7200 (for 450 hours) paid over the term of your service. The stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every two weeks) basis during your term of service. NOTE: You will not be paid hourly. In addition, an Education Award of $1,565.08 (for 300 hours) or $1,956.35 (for 450 hours) will be awarded upon successful completion of the term of service. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions. Between the living stipend (paid directly to you) and the Education Awards (paid to your institution on your behalf), your potential total compensation for the term of service is $6,365.08 (for 300 hours) or $9,156.35 (for 450 hours).
