Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker-Evening/Weekend

About the Role

This position ensures the supervision and safety of residents and the facility. Under the direction of a mental health professional, the mental health practitioner provides direct supportive services (mental health and chemical health) and emergency intervention when needed. Responsibilities include resident education on mental health issues, completing crisis assessments, using screening tools, teaching coping skills (e.g., deep breathing, muscle relaxation, distraction, visualization), and assisting residents with activities of daily living. The role also involves professional documentation of client interactions and coordination with relevant professionals to support resident care and well-being.

Responsibilities

• Respond immediately to emergency situations following established policies and procedures.
• Closely monitor activities throughout the facility and conduct periodic room checks.
• Facilitate individual and group interventions and educational lessons using Enhanced Illness Management and Recovery (E-IMR) or BRITE curriculums or materials provided by the Treatment Director.
• Provide a supportive recovery environment and strengths-based perspective with all residents.
• Assist with the daily functions of the facility, including clear documentation, maintaining confidentiality, assisting with admissions and discharges, ordering supplies, tracking schedules and appointments, completing agency and county forms, agency and DHS reports, data tracking, management of petty cash and activity funds, and maintaining electronic health records.
• Prompt and assist residents in independent daily living skills, organization, and cleaning of resident rooms, social activities, and healthy exercise.
• Maintain safe access to and supervise residents as they take medications to ensure compliance and accuracy.
• Support the operation of the program, including picking up and setting up meals from the contracted vendor, properly storing food, cleaning the kitchen and dining room after each meal, providing timely transportation of residents to access health-related or essential services, and performing cleaning duties (vacuuming, dusting, mopping kitchen and bathroom floors, laundering towels and linens).
• Ensure personal and professional growth through professional reading, attendance at workshops, seminars, and conferences while maintaining appropriate requirements for one’s specific development.
• Provide on-call coverage.

Requirements

• Written and communication skills, interpersonal understanding/empathy, integrity, and clinical judgment.
• Able to manage confidential information responsibly.
• Must pass a required applicant background check.
• Meets the standards for Mental Health Practitioner per DHS guidelines by fulfilling at least one of the following criteria:
  • Completion of at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and:
    • At least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with a mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability, and completion of additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services; or
    • Fluency in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the individual's clients belong, and completion of the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services.
  • Or at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with a mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability, and completion of the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move about the building rapidly in response to emergencies.
• Ability to perceive, assess, and respond to resident needs rapidly and accurately.
• Ability to work assigned shifts with alertness to resident and facility needs.
• Ability to perform reaching and lifting activities of up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to perform household cleaning duties, including mopping, dusting, plunging toilets, moving furniture, and keeping walkways safe and clear of snow and ice.
• Must maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license with a safe record.

Work Environment

Mainly in the residential facility, moving throughout the building to address resident needs. Includes organizing and facilitating group outings into the community and in various community settings. May also involve supervising residents on the property grounds, performing minor upkeep, or engaging in resident interactions outside.
