About the role

The Emerging Adults Mental Health Professional will work with all disciplines to provide treatment for incarcerated individuals in the Emerging Adults program at North Central Correctional Institute in Gardner, MA. This role focuses on helping participants develop self-awareness, accountability, skills, integrity, positive connections, empathy, and a sense of purpose as they transition toward adulthood.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a Master’s level program in Behavioral Health services.
  • Eligible for or hold an LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC license. If eligible, must be on track to obtain licensure.
  • Minimum of one year of employment in a social work capacity in a public or private agency or equivalent.
  • Must receive a satisfactory background investigation report.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structured intake behavioral health assessments to evaluate mental health status, risk factors, substance use history, and psychosocial needs.
  • Review and document prior treatment history, current symptoms, medication use, and relevant institutional behavior in the health record.
  • Participate in the development of provisional diagnostic assessments and treatment recommendations aligned with diagnostic criteria and correctional behavioral health standards.
  • Provide crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, and referrals for urgent care as needed.
  • Provide clinical input to classification and programming teams regarding mental health treatment needs and housing considerations.
  • Perform psychiatric social service work on the Behavioral Health Unit of the correctional facility.
  • Assist in planning and implementing program goals and objectives, including directing special projects as requested.
  • Participate in and conduct in-service programs, as well as assist in the orientation of new staff.
  • Prepare necessary documentation, records, and reports.
  • Maintain proficiency with required software, including clinical documentation in the designated electronic health record system.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule

  • Part-time (24 hours/week).
  • Evening shift.
