Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP, LMHP, or PLMHP) Inpatient

About the role

Provides quality psychotherapy and education to children, families, and adults in the region’s only full-service pediatric healthcare center. Diagnoses and treats patients independently while establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with hospital staff, physicians, community agencies, and professionals. Enhances the organization’s visibility and reputation through professional presentations, interviews, and services.

Responsibilities

• Provides quality psychotherapy and education to children, families, and adults in assigned clinics, meeting the required hours of direct client contact per week.
• Performs psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and treatment procedures tailored to patient needs.
• Documents intake information, treatment plans, and patient contacts accurately and promptly:
  • Completes progress notes within five days of client contact; immediately for patients expressing self-injurious behavior or thoughts.
  • Completes intake summaries within two treatment sessions, including diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Documents contacts with teachers, attorneys, family members, and others within five days.
• Establishes and maintains professional relationships with hospital staff, physicians, and community agencies:
  • Completes letters and summaries regarding patient care within five days of client contact.
  • Responds promptly and courteously to phone calls and information requests.
• Provides on-call coverage in rotation with mental health staff, responding within 10 minutes to pages and arriving at the hospital within 30 minutes for mental status evaluations.
• Participates in department staff meetings, peer supervision, and supervisory sessions, contributing constructive insights and supporting team events.
• Ensures maximum reimbursement for services by providing complete superbills immediately after patient sessions and securing necessary insurance authorizations.
• Provides non-clinical services, including professional presentations, media interviews, committee participation, and community outreach to enhance the department’s and hospital’s reputation.
• Offers clinical supervision, training, or classes for students, interns, or staff as requested.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a licensed mental health practitioner in a child or adolescent environment, with outpatient mental health experience.
• Knowledge of psychological principles, child and adolescent development, inter-relational dynamics, and behavior modification techniques.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and clinical professionals.
• Ability to concentrate, pay close attention to detail, and document patient progress accurately.
• Willingness to provide on-call services, including responding to hospital needs at odd hours.
• Demonstrated ability to provide age-appropriate care to children, adolescents, adults, and families.

Licenses and Certifications

• State of Nebraska eligibility as an Independent Mental Health Practitioner or Provisional Mental Health Practitioner.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (required upon hire).
• Safety-Care Specialist certification (required within 60 days of hire).
