Mental Health Peer Specialist
About the role
We are seeking a Mental Health Peer Specialist who can provide recovery-focused services to individuals in MHMR programs, adhering to TAC requirements. The role involves offering recovery and wellness support, mentoring, and advocacy in both group and individual settings. The ideal candidate will draw from their personal recovery experience to teach the value of recovery, model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies, and foster positive relationships with support resources.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement educational, support, and affiliation groups tailored to individual needs and preferences.
- Assist clients in efficiently utilizing community resources and natural support networks.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Completed peer specialist orientation and self-assessment
- Completed Peer Specialist Core Training
- Passed the knowledge assessment
- At least one (1) year of cumulative experience as a recipient of community mental health services for a condition within Texas' target population
- Self-reported life experience in active recovery
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
Qualifications
- Within one (1) year of hire date, obtain Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) certification and maintain certification biannually by completing CEU’s provided in Tarrant County.
- Complete Peer Specialist Core Training and Mental Health Peer Specialist training within 6 months of hire date.
