Mental Health Director

NaphCare is hiring an experienced Mental Health Director to join our team of medical professionals in the Montgomery County Jail in Montgomery, Ohio. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs.

About the role

The Mental Health Director manages and oversees mental health programs for the facility, ensuring patients receive quality care that protects their rights, dignity, and health. You will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide coordinated care.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement mental health programs and services
• Coordinate, lead, and participate in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients
• Perform and document patient mental health evaluations, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records, progress notes, and other required documentation
• Facilitate patient treatments, including admission and discharge from the mental health unit, housing change requests, seclusion, suicide precautions, close observation, and observation level changes
• Demonstrate knowledge of DSM-V criteria
• Work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and correctional staff to ensure effective and coordinated care
• Manage mental health staff, including training, development, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding
• Develop and manage program budgets; utilize resources efficiently
• Respond to and manage mental health crises, providing immediate support and stabilization
• Monitor compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to ACA and NCCHC standards

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field
• Active, unrestricted state license (LMSW-C, LPC, LMSW)
• Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
• Minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
• Minimum of 2 years’ management experience; correctional healthcare experience preferred
• Knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders, discharge planning, principles of social work, and psychotropic medications
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, assess patients’ situations, and develop interventions and treatment plans
• Strong communication skills for building patient rapport and relaying information to other professionals
• Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to a Code of Conduct
• Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances
• Perform physically demanding tasks like CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift
