Mental Health Clinician (OT/SW/SP/RPN Gr4) - Community Forensic Youth Mental Health Service

About the role

Bayside Health (Alfred Care Group) is expanding the Community Youth Forensic Mental Health Service (CFYMHS). The expanded service will extend existing consultation services and provide direct service to children and young adults in Eastern Victoria, focusing on early intervention with children and young people exhibiting offending behaviours to divert and enable alternative life trajectories. The team will work with interagency care teams, families, and networks to better coordinate and address causal factors leading to offending behaviour.

The role involves providing secondary consultation, direct assessment, and care team coordination, as well as discipline-specific input, to youth and service providers. You will work with knowledge of the justice, court, and mental health systems to deliver better outcomes for children and young people at risk of offending trajectories. An approach that builds on existing care networks, family connections, cultural considerations, and the role of lived experience workforce and mentors is required.

The incumbent must have experience with assessment, treatment, and care coordination of young people with mental health difficulties, as well as emerging skills in education, training, and consultation. The role will assist in developing partnerships and interagency working arrangements to maximize outcomes for children and young people engaging in problem behaviours and their families. It will also enhance engagement with metropolitan and rural mental health, Youth Justice, Child Protection, and cultural support agencies, helping to inform future policy directions.

The team will be co-located with the ICYAMHWS service at Moorabbin, with some outreach travel required to locations across Eastern Victoria, both metropolitan and rural.

Responsibilities

• Provide secondary consultation, direct assessment, and care team coordination for youth and service providers.
• Deliver discipline-specific input within a multidisciplinary team.
• Apply knowledge of justice, court, and mental health systems to improve outcomes for at-risk youth.
• Build on existing care networks, family connections, and cultural considerations.
• Develop partnerships and interagency working arrangements to support children and families.
• Enhance engagement with mental health, Youth Justice, Child Protection, and cultural support agencies.
• Contribute to policy development and deliverable outcomes.
• Participate in outreach travel across Eastern Victoria.

Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and registration with the relevant professional body (e.g., Nursing and Midwifery Board, Occupational Therapy Board via AHPRA, or eligibility with AASW or SPA).
• Minimum seven years’ experience working in the field of mental health.
• Knowledge of evidence-informed practice in forensic youth mental health and ability to convey this in clinical consultation.
• Australian working rights.
• Current Influenza vaccination (or acceptable medical exemption).
• Willingness to complete a background check and hold a satisfactory Working with Children Check.

Relevant post-graduate qualifications are preferred.
