MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN II/ EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS HOMELESSNESS

This is a reposting to update the supplemental questionnaire. The LA County Board of Supervisors has declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is expanding its response to address housing, mental health, and substance use. The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates for emergency Mental Health Clinician II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Performance will be assessed before the end of the initial work period for consideration for permanent appointment.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial diagnostic evaluations, noting behavioral symptoms indicative of mental disorders in children and interpersonal/family/social dysfunctions in clients.
• Plans intervention programs and case dispositions as part of a professional treatment team.
• Provides crisis intervention, treatment, case management, and other mental health services to clients and their families.
• Delivers case management, individual, family, and group therapy services.
• Assesses client progress and modifies rehabilitative plans to meet agreed-upon goals.
• Prepares and maintains psychosocial case histories for diagnostic evaluations and patient progress tracking.
• Collects and evaluates medical or psychosocial data, including histories, behavior patterns, and family relationships.
• Engages in psychoeducation activities with consumers, families, and caregivers.
• Conducts outreach and provides community-based services as required.
• Serves as a broker between clients, families, and community resources to maximize self-sufficiency and independence within the limits of their disability.
• Conducts treatment groups in schools and community settings for emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children to improve interpersonal relations and learning.

Requirements

• A current valid license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Marriage Family and Child Counselor) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science.
• A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation for job-related essential functions.

Physical Demands

Physical Class II – Light: This role involves administrative and clerical tasks requiring light physical effort, including occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
