CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST II / EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT HOMELESSNESS

LA County is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Clinical Psychologist II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During this period, your work performance will be assessed and weighted 100%. Those who pass will be considered for permanent appointment.

About the role

Under general supervision, serves as a staff psychologist at the full professional level by applying psychological principles in assessment, treatment, research, training, and clinical consultation.

Responsibilities

• Selects, administers, and interprets a wide variety of psychological testing instruments for diagnosis and evaluation of clients with psychiatric and co-occurring disorders, or for fitness-for-duty assessments of County employees, applicants, or candidates.
• Generates reports of diagnostic and psychological findings and treatment recommendations.
• Performs direct service activities including diagnostic evaluation, structured clinical interviewing, and individual, group, and family therapy using modalities such as psychotherapy, behavior modification, and evidence-based practices like cognitive-behavioral therapy.
• Intervenes with clients to enhance treatment participation, define goals, and design intervention strategies supporting recovery and resiliency.
• Evaluates client response to treatment, modifies strategies, and includes the client in decision-making.
• Plans treatment programs and case dispositions as part of a multidisciplinary team, identifying treatment outcomes.
• Obtains and studies medical, psychological, social, and family histories through interviews and record reviews.
• Provides technical guidance and instruction to interns and license-waivered psychologists.
• Consults with medical providers on psychological and behavioral aspects of medical conditions.
• Participates in professional staff conferences on psychological assessment methods, techniques, and results.
• Advises on screening new psychology personnel, including trainees or interns.
• Provides court testimony on results of psychological evaluations.
• Initiates and conducts psychological research studies and collaborates on multidisciplinary projects.

Requirements

• A Doctorate from an accredited college or university in psychology, educational psychology, education with a specialization in counseling psychology, or an equivalent discipline as deemed by the California Board of Psychology.
• A valid license to practice as a psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology.

Qualifications

Physical Class II - Light: Involves administrative and clerical tasks requiring occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds) and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
