Mental Health Clinician

About the Role

As a Licensed Mental Health Provider at BILH, you will perform duties appropriate to your role while maintaining confidentiality as required by law and BID-Milton Hospital. You will offer assessment, evaluation, and recommendations to pre-operative patients seeking Bariatric Surgery services, as well as provide ongoing support to post-bariatric surgery and medical weight management patients.

Responsibilities

• Assure the safety of the patient population by demonstrating age-appropriate skills in assessing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care.
• Perform psychological evaluations for preoperative bariatric patients and provide formal written evaluations regarding their readiness for surgery.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss challenging patients, office dynamics, and seek supervision on cases from program physicians.
• Communicate findings of evaluations to the multidisciplinary team and others as appropriate.
• Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of psychiatric care plans, including addressing smoking cessation, substance use/abuse, eating disorders, and cannabis use.
• Provide psychological support to post-operative bariatric and medical weight management patients on psychosocial issues such as psychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support, quality of life, marital adjustments, and sexual functioning.
• Lead and participate in various group meetings, including support groups and specialized focus groups.
• Collaborate with medical staff, the Comprehensive Weight Management multidisciplinary team, and community care providers for letters of support, care plan recommendations, and collateral for existing treatment plans.
• Provide short-term psychosocial counseling and crisis intervention for patients experiencing acute life adjustments due to bariatric surgery or medical weight loss.
• Recommend needed medical and/or psychiatric post-hospital services.
• Provide consultation and education for the Comprehensive Weight Management Team regarding comprehensive psychosocial assessments, counseling, or recommendations for psychiatric care, substance abuse rehabilitation, or urgent psychosocial situations.
• Comply with documentation standards for medical records and internal case files.
• Maintain and update knowledge and skills in clinical specialty, adhering to MBSAQIP Accreditation Guidelines for Psychological Care of the Bariatric Surgery patient.
• Assist in the preparation for Program Accreditation.
• Attend professional conferences and workshops to stay current with clinical interventions, regulations, and resources pertinent to mental and behavioral health.
• Attend mandatory education programs required by the organization and maintain membership in a related professional organization.
• Perform all duties in accordance with laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies, and established departmental and hospital policies.
• May be required to perform similar or related duties as necessary on an emergency, temporary, or limited basis.

Requirements

• Licensed Mental Health Provider.
• Adherence to confidentiality requirements as mandated by law and BID-Milton Hospital.
• Ability to perform psychological evaluations and provide written assessments.
• Experience in providing psychological support and counseling for patients undergoing major lifestyle changes.
• Commitment to maintaining and updating clinical knowledge and skills.
• Vaccination against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
