Mental Health Associate
Fairview is seeking a compassionate Mental Health Associate to join our Emergency Department at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN—just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis near the 35E and 35W conjunctions. The hospital has provided state-of-the-art care and community services to the Minnesota Valley since 1984.
About the role
The Mental Health Associate delivers patient care and promotes a therapeutic environment under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, ensuring treatment goals and objectives are met on assigned units.
Responsibilities
- Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
- Responds and participates in de-escalation of patients, including physical intervention as trained.
- Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
- Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals, and plans.
- Provides light to medium ADL assistance, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, eating, and mobility support.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of the population served.
- Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/caregiver.
Requirements
- 2 years of experience in mental health, healthcare, or a school setting (e.g., NST, PCS, behavioral tech).
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals or high-acuity behavioral needs.
- Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S./B.A. in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
- Experience in inpatient or ED behavioral health or related high-acuity settings (e.g., schools, residential treatment facilities, group homes).
Schedule
- 56 hours per pay period, day shift: 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM.
- 8-hour shifts, working every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Pay
Compensation is determined by factors such as skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Pay equity and internal team equity are prioritized. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If eligible, a sign-on bonus may be offered based on the approved program at the time of the offer.
