Mental Health Associate -2nd shift 1pm-9pm with rotating 12 hour weekends
Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years. Our treatment services range from intensive residential treatment for males ages 9-18 to therapeutic foster care for males and females of all ages. Our RISE and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care programs for boys are the only programs of their kind in the State of Alabama. About the role
The Mental Health Associate provides direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders to ensure their safety and well-being. MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the resident’s safety on the unit utilizing a therapeutic approach to all tasks, including assistance with daily activities, facilitation of groups, and other duties as assigned by Group Leader, Assistant Group Leader, or Shift Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders
- Ensure resident safety on the unit using a therapeutic approach
- Assist with daily activities
- Facilitate groups
- Perform other duties as assigned by Group Leader, Assistant Group Leader, or Shift Supervisor
- Safely monitor residents and perform physical management techniques and crisis intervention
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or other related mental health field preferred, but not required
- Strong documentation skills and ability to stay detailed and organized
- Experience in a residential mental/behavioral health setting strongly preferred
- Must be 19 years or older
- Must pass a drug screen and background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check)
Schedule
- 2nd shift: 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
- Rotating 12-hour weekend shift: 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM (Saturday and Sunday)

Pay
This position is eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus.
