Alabama Clinical Schools has been a behavioral healthcare provider in the Birmingham area for over 20 years. Our treatment services range from intensive residential treatment for males ages 9-18 to therapeutic foster care for males and females of all ages. Our RISE and Specialized Therapeutic Foster Care programs for boys are the only programs of their kind in the State of Alabama. Our mission is to enrich the lives of at-risk youth and their families by delivering quality behavioral and educational services while fostering a safe transition to the community.

About the role

The Mental Health Associate provides direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders to ensure their safety and well-being. MHAs have the primary responsibility for ensuring the resident’s safety on the unit utilizing a therapeutic approach to all tasks, including assistance with daily activities, facilitation of groups, and other duties as assigned by Group Leader, Assistant Group Leader, or Shift Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to residents with psychiatric disorders
  • Ensure resident safety on the unit using a therapeutic approach
  • Assist with daily activities
  • Facilitate groups
  • Perform physical management techniques and crisis intervention
  • Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in psychology, social work, education, criminal justice, or other related mental health field preferred, but not required
  • Experience in a residential mental/behavioral health setting strongly preferred
  • Ability to safely monitor residents and perform physical management techniques and crisis intervention
  • Strong documentation skills; detail-oriented and organized
  • Must be 19 years or older
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check)

Schedule

  • 1st shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with a rotating 12-hour weekend shift (9:00 AM – 9:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday)

Pay

Eligible for a $3,000 sign-on bonus.
