About the role

Northampton Students' Union is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Men's Rugby League Coach to lead and develop our student team. Working closely with club committee members and the Sports Team, you will deliver engaging training sessions, support matchday performance, and help create an inclusive and enjoyable environment that enables students of all abilities to thrive. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a growing university sports programme.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver weekly coaching sessions on either Mondays (17:30-19:00) or Fridays (19:00-20:30) from late September 2026 to mid March 2027.
  • Develop players of varying abilities in a positive, inclusive, and safe environment.
  • Work collaboratively with student committee members to support club objectives and future development.
  • Promote positive team culture, sportsmanship, and student wellbeing.
  • Ensure all coaching activities are delivered in accordance with relevant safeguarding and health and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience coaching Rugby League and/or Rugby Union in a club, school, college or university setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and develop student athletes.
  • Experience planning and delivering structured coaching sessions.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and player welfare responsibilities.
  • Willingness to work towards Rugby League-specific qualifications and development opportunities where required.

Qualifications

  • RFL Level 2 (or working towards) – desirable
  • Experience coaching Rugby League teams – desirable
  • Knowledge of BUCS competition structures – desirable
  • Experience working within a higher education or student sport environment – desirable

Pay

£35-40 per hour
