Job Description And Position Requirements

The Pennsylvania State University Department/Area: Campus Recreation, Membership and Outreach
Position Title: Membership and Outreach Manager-Tennis Center
Reports To: Coordinator of Reservations, Membership, and Outreach

Description: Managers must be committed to creating and leading a welcoming environment that enables members of the Penn State community to thrive. They must have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent interpersonal skills and leadership. Managers must have strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Membership/Outreach Oversight of daily operations, which includes policy enforcement, shift promptness, troubleshooting technology, and staff and patron concerns.

  • Perform membership and court time sales, administrative duties, answering the office phone, guiding facility tours and providing general customer service to patrons.

  • Troubleshoot issues with membership/membership renewals, and court times.

  • Aid with the coordination of Campus Recreation outreach events.

  • Manage digital outreach in facilities.

  • Serve as a staff trainer and provide professional development opportunities to current employees.

  • Aid in the evaluation and accountability of student staff.

  • Assist in creation and maintenance of schedules of student employees.

  • Cook up the Membership and Outreach-Tennis end-of-year employee appreciation event.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Facilities Oversight

  • Oversee Reserve My Court.

  • Oversee Connect2 Tasks and Counts.

  • Monitor to ensure we are in compliance with AD 39.

  • Assist with training in clay court grooming and maintenance.

  • Assist with tennis sale products inventory.

Personal/Professional Development and Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct monthly staff meetings and skill sessions.

  • Aid in the Membership & Outreach Attendant Interviews and assist with the training and onboarding process.

  • Be receptive to professional and personal development.

  • Balance time commitments.

  • Give and receive performance feedback.

  • Recognize limitations and work to improve.

  • Function as a contributing member of the Campus Recreation Team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 150 hours as a Membership and Outreach Attendant required.

  • Successfully complete the following 3 clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Criminal Background Check.

  • Successfully complete Pediatric and Adult CPR/First Aid after hire.

  • Ability to positively interact with patrons and employees alike.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

  • Promote Campus Recreation programs and services.

Working Conditions

Average of 12-15 hours worked per week. Includes a minimum of 6 hours per week in the Membership Offices at the Tennis Center. Membership Office Work will take place on the University Park Campus and in the State College Community. Must be able to accommodate a variable work schedule that will include mornings, evening, weekends, and University breaks.
