Membership Director
The Local Media Consortium (LMC) delivers economic value through 30+ strategic partnerships on behalf of 100 local media companies in top markets across the United States and Canada representing more than 5,000 newspaper, radio, TV and online-only news outlets. By harnessing the combined volume and scale of its members, the LMC reduces costs and increases revenue with technology and service providers like Google, Facebook, Monster and others. The LMC also leads strategic initiatives that provide scalable ways for our members to compete in the digital ecosystem. The aggregated LMC audience footprint spans 200 million monthly unique visitors and its member companies serve more than 25 billion ad impressions.
About the role
The Membership Director is responsible for driving overall membership growth for the LMC by collaborating with the SVP of Revenue to design targeted acquisition strategies, manage a high-converting prospect pipeline, and consistently hit ambitious expansion goals.

Responsibilities
- Conduct targeted market research to identify and qualify strategic prospects for LMC Membership.
- Own end-to-end recruitment efforts, implementing proactive outreach strategies to boost member acquisition and engagement.
- Analyze industry trends and lead data to discover untapped markets and drive membership growth initiatives.
- Help to manage M&A activity to maintain up-to-date property data and member dues with the SVP Engagement.
- Work with the SVP Revenue and SVP Engagement to develop and execute plans to increase the LMC’s membership base and revenue.
- Work with the SVP Engagement to develop and implement membership retention initiatives.
- Work with the SVP Revenue to develop and implement communication strategies to increase senior level executives’ (e.g. member company CEOs, COO, SVPs) knowledge of LMC initiatives and the value delivered to member companies.
- Provide ongoing oversight and management of key initiatives underway in consort with the SVP Revenue.
- Collaborate closely with LMC staff to leverage personal and business networks to elevate member satisfaction and drive sustainable membership growth.
- Manage certain key initiatives and projects as directed by the SVP Revenue, serving as a project or committee lead.
- Occasionally serve as an ambassador for the LMC by representing it at industry-related events, via speaking engagements and by participation in various industry initiatives.
- Provide the SVP Revenue and CEO with ongoing strategic and operational support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business administration, or related field, and/or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of media industry and executive experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in business development or customer acquisition.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of local and interactive media, business principles and practices, strategic initiatives.
- Adept at contract and membership negotiations.
- Outstanding relationship building and customer service skills.
- Self-starter and entrepreneurial.
- Well organized, flexible and detail oriented.
- Team player who can also work independently.
- Ability to prioritize work, multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Can gather and analyze information skillfully.

Pay
$75K to $125k annual salary + Potential MBO Bonus
