Hybrid$107k–$192k/yrFull-time

Ever wonder who brings the entertainment to your flights? Panasonic Avionics Corporation is #1 in the industry for delivering inflight products such as movies, games, Wi-Fi, and now Bluetooth headphone connectivity. With over 40 years of history, you will have stability, career growth opportunities, and will work with the brightest minds in the industry.

About the role

As a Member of Technical Staff III (MTS III) on Panasonic’s Platform as a Service (PaaS) team, you will design, develop, test, and operate platform software and infrastructure that enables applications and services to run reliably on Kubernetes-based edge platforms. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working across software development, cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, networking, security, automation, and distributed systems.

You will work with engineers and architects across multiple platform teams to deliver reliable, secure, and scalable capabilities from cloud-based development environments to resource-constrained edge environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain platform services and infrastructure primarily using Go.
  • Build reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend services, controllers, APIs, automation, and platform components.
  • Develop and operate Kubernetes-based platform capabilities, including workload deployment, lifecycle management, configuration, networking, security policies, storage, and observability.
  • Build solutions that operate in edge and disconnected/air-gapped environments, where connectivity, compute resources, storage, and bandwidth may be constrained.
  • Develop and maintain GitOps-based application deployment and lifecycle management workflows using technologies such as Argo CD, Helm, Kubernetes, and GitLab.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, containerized build environments, automated testing, security scanning, and release automation.
  • Develop and integrate platform services with AWS services and cloud infrastructure where appropriate.
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and event-driven services used by distributed platform components.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across application, Kubernetes, Linux, container runtime, networking, storage, and infrastructure layers.
  • Implement platform observability using metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerting to improve operational visibility and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to platform security through Kubernetes security controls, admission policies, secrets management, container security, and secure software development practices.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, technical reviews, proof-of-concepts, and implementation planning.
  • Work closely with engineers across Platform, Infrastructure, DevOps, Security, and Application teams to identify dependencies and deliver integrated solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and promote engineering practices that improve code quality, testability, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Develop automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and contribute to platform stabilization and performance optimization.
  • Participate in Agile/SAFe activities including PI planning, iteration planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, technical demonstrations, and story decomposition.
  • Create and maintain architecture documentation, operational procedures, troubleshooting guides, and other technical documentation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and propose solutions that improve platform reliability, security, scalability, developer experience, and operational efficiency.

An MTS III engineer on this team is expected to be more than a task implementer. You should be comfortable taking a technical problem, understanding the requirements and dependencies, contributing to the design, breaking the solution into implementable work, developing and testing it, integrating it with the broader platform, and supporting it through deployment. You will be expected to collaborate with other engineers, raise technical risks early, help troubleshoot difficult platform problems, and contribute to improving the overall engineering quality and reliability of the platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5–10 years of professional software engineering experience, preferably building backend, infrastructure, cloud-native, or distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on software development experience with Go (Golang).
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals including data structures, concurrency, APIs, error handling, testing, debugging, and software design.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, containers, Docker/OCI, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience developing, deploying, and troubleshooting applications running on Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Git and GitLab or equivalent source-control and CI/CD platforms.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience with AWS or another major cloud platform, including integrating applications with cloud services.
  • Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines and software release processes.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, automated testing frameworks, and debugging production software.
  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts including service communication, failure handling, retries, resiliency, and observability.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose problems across multiple layers of a software and infrastructure stack.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment using Scrum and/or SAFe Agile.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams.
  • Ability to independently take ownership of technical problems from design and implementation through integration, testing, deployment, and operational support.

Nice to have

  • Kubernetes controllers, operators, CRDs, admission controllers, or policy engines
  • Argo CD and GitOps deployment models
  • Helm and Kubernetes package management
  • Kubernetes networking, CNI, NetworkPolicy, or service networking
  • Kubernetes security and policy management
  • OCI container registries and container image lifecycle management
  • Air-gapped or disconnected Kubernetes environments
  • Edge computing or resource-constrained distributed systems
  • Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, Datadog, or similar observability platforms
  • Event-driven architectures and messaging technologies
  • AWS services such as ECR, ECS, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, or API Gateway
  • Infrastructure automation and configuration management
  • Performance analysis and optimization of distributed systems
  • Secure software development and container/application security
